Mooney training: frequently asked questions
How many hours does Mooney transition training take?
Typically 10–15 flight hours plus 8–10 hours of ground. Our syllabus plans 11.5 flight hours and 8.0 ground hours, experienced pilots may need less, and many insurance policies set their own minimum. More on transition training →
Do you come to my airport?
Yes. We train in your airplane, at your airport. We’re based in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and we travel throughout the U.S. We’ve also trained Mooney pilots in Canada and in Australia, where Mike trained pilots for the Australian Mooney Pilots Association in Bathurst, New South Wales. What does it cost?
$800 per training day, $500 per half day, and $800 per instructor travel day (or $500 when travel is a half day). The instructor’s direct expenses are paid directly to the instructor, and airfare and hotel are prepaid to the instructor before training. Full rates and an example quote →
Will my insurance company accept Mooney Pros training?
We fly the training your policy requires and give you the logbook endorsements and records your underwriter asks for. Every policy is different, so get the requirement in writing from your agent and send it to us. We can’t promise a premium discount. Insurance checkout training →
Why do I need to add Mooney Pros as an additional insured?
Before any flight, we require Mooney Pros, Inc. and your instructor to be named additional insureds on your policy, with a waiver of subrogation. It keeps you, your instructor, and the company on the same side if there’s ever a claim. Your agent can usually do it quickly. Rates & booking →
Will I get FAA WINGS credit? Does it count as a flight review?
Mooney Pros is a FAASTeam Industry Member (a safety partnership with the FAA Safety Team, not an FAA endorsement). Our transition training and IPCs are set up as WINGS activities on ezwings.net. Transition training earns credit toward the Basic, Advanced, and Master phases; an IPC earns the Basic phase. A completed WINGS phase satisfies the flight review requirement. Recurrent, flight reviews, and IPCs →
Do you provide an airplane?
No. Mooney Pros never provides the aircraft. You train in your own Mooney, which is the airplane you need to know.
Which Mooney models do you train in? Do you still do factory Ultra training?
We train in every model. Our clients fly everything from M20A, C, and E models to Js, Ks, Bravos, Ovations, Acclaims, and M20U and M20V Ultras. Mooney Pros began in 2017 as Mooney International’s factory transition program for the Ultra. That program ended when Mooney stopped producing airplanes, and Ultra owners now train with us through our regular transition and recurrent training. Transition training → · Instructors →
I just bought a Mooney out of state. Can you help me get it home?
Yes. Your instructor can meet you at the prebuy shop or the seller’s airport and fly it home with you as transition training, or we can ferry it for you. Ferry and repositioning →
Do you teach instrument or commercial ratings in a Mooney?
Yes. Several of our instructors teach instrument and commercial training in the client’s own Mooney. Contact us to talk through your goals.
What’s the connection between Mooney Pros and the Mooney Summit?
Mike Elliott co-founded the Mooney Summit in 2014, and Mooney Pros is a proud supporter. The Summit is run separately by Mooney Summit, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charity, and it supports the Bill Gilliland Foundation. Mooney Summit XII is September 23–25, 2027, in Tampa.
How do I book?
